Informix - Problem description
Problem IT43294 | Status: Closed |
INCREASE IN GLOBAL MEMORY POOL USAGE WHEN RECEIVING MANY FRAGMENTED NETWORK DATA PACKETS
product: | |
INFORMIX SERVER / 5725A3900 / C10 - IDS 12.10
Problem description: | |
The communication protocol used by the Informix client and server may involve a sequence of transferring many packets of data from the client to the server. An example would be the insert or update of large blob or character columns. Data is sent by the client in packets of, for example, 1k or 4k bytes but the size of each packet read by the Informix server may not match. The amount of data received in each read call may vary depending on the host server load or network characteristics and may vary from a few bytes to multiple kb. The data returned by each read call is stored in its own fixed size buffer with the result that many such buffers may be required. The memory for the network data buffers is allocated from the global memory pool. This pool is not automatically drained and may become fragmented over time leading to more shared memory being required in order to accommodate requests for the relatively large network buffers.
