DB2 - Problem description

Problem IC64843 Status: Closed

INSTANCE MAY ABEND COMPILING A QUERY IN EVALUATE INDEXES EXPLAIN MODE OR
RUNNING DB2ADVIS FOR INDEX RECOMMENDATIONS (-M I)

product:
DB2 FOR LUW / DB2FORLUW / 910 - DB2
Problem description:
Compiling a query under EXPLAIN MODE EVALUATE INDEXES or running
the DB2 Design Advisor (db2advis) under index recommendation
mode, i.e., with the -m I command-line option, may cause the
instance to abend.

The conditions required for such an abend are:
- More than 1 predicate present in a query being evaluated
either under the EVALUATE INDEXES EXPLAIN MODE or as part of
  the input workload for db2advis
- Index candidates in the ADVISE_INDEX table either (1) refer to
columns that are not part of the table for which they are
candidates or (2) refer to the same column more than once.
This can occur either by user error or if the table in
  question was ALTERed.

question was ALTERed.
Local Fix:
- Avoid ALTERing any tables during invocations of db2advis
- Ensure that any evaluation-candidate indexes populated into
the ADVISE_INDEX table are in valid form
