DB2 - Problem description

Problem IC76857 Status: Closed

DB2_DEINSTALL DOES NOT STOP IF THE LOG FILE CANNOT BE CREATED OR UPDATED

product:
DB2 FOR LUW / DB2FORLUW / 970 - DB2
Problem description:
When you try to deinstall a DB2 copy that was installed as a
non-root user and specify a log filename that cannot be created
or if the logfile already exists but cannot be updated by the
non-root user you will receive an incomplete error message and
the deinstallation continues. All the log messages are printed
to standard output and no log file will be generated.

The following example describes the case when the log file,
/tmp/deinstall.log, already exists and does not have write
permission for the non-root user:

$ ~/sqllib/install/db2_deinstall -a -l /tmp/deinstall.log
DBI1016I Program db2_deinstall is performing uninstallation.
Please
      wait.

The log file "" cannot be created. No log will be generated.

Previously Installed Products:
    DB2 Enterprise Server Edition
Selected Products:
    DB2 Enterprise Server Edition
....

The expected behavior for db2_deinstall is to print the
following message and abort the deinstallation:

DBI1503E An error was encountered when opening or writing to
file,
      /tmp/deinstall.log.
