DB2 - Problem description
Problem IC78718 | Status: Closed |
DB2 REPORTS NUMBER OF PROCESSOR CORES WITH INTEL HYPERTHREADING INCORRECTLY
product: | |
DB2 FOR LUW / DB2FORLUW / 970 - DB2
Problem description: | |
DB2 incorrectly counts a core which is Intel HyperThreading as two cores. It should be counted as 1 core with threading level of 2 for the purpose of license enforcement. Our license text explicitly states limits as based on cores rather than Intel "threads". Correct output should be Dual X5560 (2 socket) CPU: total:16 online:16 Cores per socket:4 Threading degree per core:2 Instead in db2diag.log it reports CPU: total:16 online:16 Cores per socket:8 Threading degree per core:1 This can also be displayed via db2pd -osinfo. The output we are looking for will be similar to CPU Information: TotalCPU OnlineCPU ConfigCPU Speed(MHz) HMTDegree Cores/Socket 8 8 8 1648 2 n/a

**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * DB2 Express-C and DB2 Express users running on hardware with * * Intel processor(s) that have Hyperthreading * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * DB2 Express-C and DB2 Express will only use half the * * physical CPU cores they should, because Hyperthreading will * * make it look as though the computer has twice as many cores * * as it actually does. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * * Upgrade to DB2 v9.7fp6 * ****************************************************************
