Recursive queries may fail with a SQL0901N (BAD OUTER COMPARE)

Problem description:
The error below may be returned intermittently when the DB2 
optimizer performs a merge-join. 
 
SQL0901N  The SQL statement failed because of a non-severe 
system error. Subsequent SQL statements can be processed. 
(Reason "bad outer compare".)

Solution
First fixed in v9.7 Fixpack 6.  Apply v9.7 Fixpack 6 to the DB2 
server.
