Informix - Problem description

Problem IT02454 Status: Closed

DYNAMIC HASH JOIN INVOLVING TS VIRTUAL TABLE CAN CONSUME GBS OF MEMORY IN
RTN POOL WHEN SQL_FEAT_CTRL CONTAINS 0X800000

product:
IFMX ULT WHSE E / IM0019BOS / C10 - IDS 12.10
Problem description:
If you have a TimeSeries virtual table (TS VT) constructed over
TS data created using TS 5.00 (Informix 11.70) and the
SQL_FEAT_CTRL parameter in your onconfig file contains the value
0x800000 (enable hash joins on VTI tables; introduced in
12.10.FC3W1), the dynamic hash join involving that TS VT can
consume gigabytes of memory in RTN* memory pool related to the
session. Having more such joins running at the same time (for
example various Cognos reports) can exhaust all the available
memory in the system.

The problem is usually seen when the query runs from a Java/JDBC
client. Running the same query in dbaccess doesn't show this
behavior.
