DB2 - Problem description

Problem IT07238 Status: Closed

RESTORING OLDER FIXPACK BACKUP IMAGE TO NEWER VERSION, ON DPF, WITH
REDIRECT GENERATE SCRIPT, MAY HANG OR TRAP

product:
DB2 FOR LUW / DB2FORLUW / 970 - DB2
Problem description:
- The hung issue would only occur when all of below conditions
are met:

a) The backup images that you are restoring from is taken from a
lower fixpack level database, for example the backup images were
taken at FP6, but you are restoring them to a FP8 instance.

b) The catalog partition (0) has been successfully restored
first.

NOTE: If catalog partition has not been restored, the "restore
redirect generate" on non-catalog partition would not hang.

c) Generating a redirect restore script on the partition other
than catalog partition 0.

NOTE: if you do an actual restore , it would not hang.

In another words, it would not hang:

.

if you are restoring from a
backup image taken at the same pixpack level, OR
                                 if catalog partition has NOT
been restored before running the redirect restore generate
script on a non-catalog partition, OR
                                 if catalog partition has been
restored but you are performing a normal redirect restore on the
non-catalog partition(instead of generating a script),

.
It is known to hang on AIX and trap on Linux
