Informix - Problem description

Problem IT11369 Status: Closed

DBEXPORT OR UNLOAD OF TABLE CONTAINING SMART BLOB ( SBLOB ) DATA USES AN
EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF SESSION PARTN MEMORY

product:
INFORMIX SERVER / 5725A3900 / C10 - IDS 12.10
Problem description:
Linux 12.10.FC5W1 but can see the same behaviour on 12.10.FC1
and 11.70.FC1.

When running a dbexport of the database, the engine ran out of
memory and the online.log showed many new memory segments being
added. All of the machines available memory was used so it was
not possible to complete the export. Even doing a single unload
had mixed results. This was originally seen on a RSS node but
the same issue can be seen on the primary. Investigations have
now shown that this can be seen on stand-alone / normal setup.
The problem can be seen with a simple unload statement. If the
statement completes, all of the memory is freed. The same
select without "unload to ..." does not exhibit this excessive
memory usage. If you run an onstat -g ses you will see
the memory growing and the breakdown shows partn as the main
contributor. An onstat -g afr shows many of these
entries. ...
