Problem IT45640 | Status: Closed |
POTENTIAL PARTITION CORRUPTION WHEN TRUNCATING A TABLE AFTER ALTERING ITS EXTENT SIZE
product: | |
INFORMIX SERVER / 5725A3900 / E10 -
Problem description: | |
You might alter a table's first extent size and later truncate the table, and no problem typically would ensue, on the current server or any secondaries following it. There is a chance for a problem, though, if the truncate operation later had to undergo recovery from the logical log, as would be the case on any secondary server, and some unfortunate sequence of server restarts occurred, for instance, in a cluster, a secondary got restarted between the ALTER and the TRUNCATE, but not the primary, or vice versa. After such sequence of events, the table's data partition(s) might disagree between primary and secondary with regards to number, location and size of extents which can lead to various kinds of problems, like log recovery failure (typically a CHALLOC failure) and extent overlaps (surfacing as bad pages).
