Obituary - In Memory of Carlton Doe
We were saddened to have heard of Carlton Doe's death.
Carlton came to IT in the 1980s. He began working with the Informix database as a 4GL developer, administrator and consultant. His high technical understanding, communication skills, and passion for advancing projects, made him a globally recognized expert on Informix over the course of his professional life.
He was a founding member of the International Informix User Group (IIUG) in 1995, its president from 1996 to 1997 and a member of the board until his death. In 2000, he joined Informix Corporation as Technical Sales Manager responsible for the southern and central United States. In 2001, he moved with the database system to IBM to continue and expand his role as an advocate for Informix and Informix users. He was a prolific author, publishing five technical books and numerous articles.
Carlton Doe was the reliable reference for us, bringing understandable clarity into IBM's Informix product management with his shaping zeal and persistence. We had hoped to meet him again in person in Munich in March 2024, but he had to cancel the trip due to his illness.
On January 16, 2025, he passed away at the age of 65. Informix loses in Carlton an advocate and pioneer of the first hour. We mourn with his family, friends, and the Informix community.
